Natural Gas Installation Process

This step-by-step guide will walk you through the natural gas installation process in your home.

  1. The first step is to check for natural gas availability online to see if natural gas is available in your area.
  2. If natural gas is available, next, a Dominion Energy North Carolina representative will meet with you at your home. The appropriate gas meter location will be determined and paperwork will be completed to generate your order. Once your paperwork is signed, you can will need to call and set up your account at 877-584-7762. A credit check is required.
  3. Dominion Energy NC will install the service line from the street to your home. Digging is required, but we will reseed the dig site and replace landscaping if necessary.
  4. Dominion Energy NC, or another contractor of your choice, will run the inside gas piping to the location where your gas meter will be set. They may also be able to connect and convert your appliances*.
  5. The contractor will file for a permit and call to have their work inspected. Your local city/county inspections department will handle the inspection.
  6. Once the inspection occurs and is approved, contact us at 877-584-7762 to schedule an appointment to have your natural gas meter set and activated.
  7. Once the meter is activated, your contractor will need to return to your home to start your appliances and make sure they are working safely.
