Service Updates for Western North Carolina Gas Customers

  • All gas customers who are able to receive gas service are being served.
  • For customers in the Asheville area:
    •  For safety, we have interrupted gas service to the most heavily impacted areas.
    • We have added more team members to continue to assess damage and continue restoration efforts where possible.

With extensive damage, it will take time to return to full service. However, our teams are making progress in restoration efforts, stabilizing areas impacted by flooding, downed trees and powerlines and landslides.

Your Safety: What You Need to Know in the Case of an Emergency

  • If you smell a rotten egg odor, it could be a natural gas leak. Leave the area immediately and call our emergency number (see below) from a safe distance. Act quickly and remain calm—our emergency services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Please call 877-776-2427 and call 911.

Know the signs of a possible natural gas leak.

  • Rotten egg odor.
  • Hissing, whistling or roaring sound near a gas appliance or the pipeline.
  • Dirt or debris being blown into the air.
  • Persistent bubbles in streams, ponds or wet areas.
  • Discolored or dead vegetation over or near the pipeline.
  • Flames if a leak has ignited.

If you smell natural gas, DO NOT:

  • Attempt to turn natural gas valves on or off.
  • Turn on or off any electric switch; this could cause a spark and ignite the gas.
  • Use your telephone, cell phone, garage door opener or a flashlight.
  • Smoke, use a lighter or strike a match.
  • Start or stop nearby vehicles or other machinery.

  • If you see an exposed or broken gas line, leave the area immediately and call Dominion Energy at 877-776-2427 and call 911 from a safe distance.
  • If you require relight of individual appliances, do not try to do this yourself. Call a qualified gas plumber or contractor to inspect and relight those appliances.

Call Before You Dig

With extensive restoration work being done across Western North Carolina, we are reminding customers and those who live or work near natural gas lines to:

  • Before you dig, contact 811 to have an experienced professional come out free of charge to locate distribution lines and other utilities.
  • From a safe place with distance away from a broken or exposed natural gas line, please call 1 877 776-2427 or 911.
